It was still summer in Anzio last Sunday
September in Rome means the last of the summer peaches and peak fig season

In theory the month of September ushers in fall. The season for wearing cashmere sweaters and eating bowls of hearty soups. In reality, summer lingers in central and southern Italy. There is a slight chill in the air once the sun sets but I am still wearing summer dresses and I was swimming in the sea only a few days ago. In an attempt at a seasonal compromise, I made tomato soup for dinner tonight.

We are adjusting to an empty house after months filled with visiting family and friends and to Mark’s new retirement lifestyle. He is filling his days finally exploring Rome at a leisurely pace. He started the week roaming the Parco Colosseo. They have an annual membership program that allows for unlimited entrances to the Imperial Forums and Palatine hill (and the Colosseum too, but you must reserve a spot for that) We live across the street so we are absolutely getting the most out of this program, but if you visit Rome often you should look into getting yourself a membership.
