Fammi una domanda October 2025
Dull bureaucracy, thought provoking art + the year's best sunsets

I started and will end this month in Rome. In the middle was a birthday celebration, fun visitors, a trip to the Colli Euganei for a day at the hot springs and so much dull bureaucracy.1
The chore that loomed largest over my month was our appointment at Questura to renew our Permesso di Soggiorno. This is the document that allows us to stay in Italy, two years at a a time. We had a difficult time with our first round so I was super anxious. Thankfully this time it went smoothly and our new permesso should be ready soon? Determined to channel the curious nature of my pal Agnes, I prepared a reading list for my long very early morning wait in line at the Questura to learn about the person the police station was named after and a little but about the town of Marghera beyond what I knew already (it is an industrial shipyard and has a mall where the Apple Store is.) We still have not visited Forte Marghera.
October has been perfect with so many sunny days and dramatic fiery sunsets2 but summer is definitely over (my pals in Ponza have delighted all month in sending me pictures of them swimming) up here in Venice. I have pulled out the duvet and done the cambio stagione. I just ordered pecans (and made a shopping list for a Castroni run in Rome) and have already talked to the butcher about a turkey for Thanksgiving. I have even started thinking about Christmas and New Years Eve and Carnevale plans. What about you? Are you coming to Italy this winter? Do you have questions about where to go and what to do and where to eat? I can help. Send me an email.
