Gillian Knows Best Rome trip report
Relics, natural wine + fancy pastries

We are inordinately lucky to have 1) had Rome be our home for so many years. 2) fast trains that make the journey from Venice easy peasy.1 3) generous pals who always have a place for us to stay when we have a craving for amatriciana and maritozzi and cosmati floors and Caravaggio.
After our blissful early September days bidding summer adieu in Ponza we stopped in Rome for a short visit before heading back north to Venice. You know that I am a creature of habit, preferring to return to the same places, seeing and eating the same things. I had iced tea at Sant’Eustachio and a maritozzo for breakfast before I got my nails done.2 Of course we went to our beach for spaghetti alle vongole. I stopped in to say hello to the sparkly mosaics and cosmati floors at Santa Prassede.
I also visited a few of my favorite Rome deeper cuts that included churches, a treasure filled thrift store and a dependable tavola calda. I made you a map and a list of where we went and what we ate. Upgrade your subscription to keep reading. A pad subscription means you also have access to all of my maps, guides and itineraries for Rome, Venice, Florence and Sicily.
