It will be here before you know it so I have gathered up as much information as I can for you to start planning. The Christmas season in Venice runs from the evening of November 21 (the lights start going up at the end of October up here!) until January 6. The main lights are turned on after the Salute celebrations on November 21 and the tree lighting in Piazza San Marco (with singing and an appearance by the mayor) usually happens the following evening. The lights stay up (though they are not always lit in the days between Befana and Carnevale) until the last day of Carnevale on February 17.

Last week I gave you all the details for my favorite panettone and pandoro. This week paid subscribers have access to my list of the key dates to know about and some of my favorite things to do in Venice and the lagoon islands from early December until January 6. Most official calendars and websites have not published their full holiday schedules and announcements yet. Double check before you head out for an event. I will update this post as information is announced.

Are you going to be in Rome for the holidays?
