Venice on a Budget: Top Places to Eat & drink
Eating in Venice doesn't have to be expensive

Venice is expensive. There are a multitude of reasons why. The biggest one is because it can be. Dig a just a little deeper into the why and you will understand that logistics are complicated here. Everything must be delivered by boat and then by hand. (Venetian insider tip - listen and look out for delivery people pulling heavy carts stacked with Amazon packages or boxes of wine through narrow calle and up and down steps over bridges) Trash collection is the same thing in reverse. Because of housing and transportation difficulties many restaurants must maintain staff apartments. If it is too foggy or the water is too high or low or there is a transportation strike or an accident on the one and only bridge that connects Venice to the mainland, things grind to a standstill.
If you do your research and/or follow my advice the places you stay and eat are worth it. I also completely understand the desire to not eat every single meal at a restaurant. But. You don’t have to eat takeout pasta from a soggy cardboard box sitting on the street. (Seriously. Please don’t do that) I have some delicious, fast, and affordable alternatives that are not full on restaurants for you. All of them have somewhere to sit.
You know the drill about it costing more to sit down. A glass of wine or a spritz standing up at the bar is usually less than €5. A cup of coffee is generally about €2. There are plenty of bacari where you can stand, get something to drink and a few pieces of cichetti for the cost of a venti iced matcha.
