As wonderful as my favorite restaurant in Venice is you can’t eat every meal at Al Covo. They are closed two days a week after all. Last month during our unexpected extended stay in Venice, I used the time to expand my horizons beyond my firm favorites. I tried some splashy new names and some places that had long been on the to-do list.
Venice is a complicated place. There might be an unexpected closing or high water that causes delivery problems. You might just be too tired to walk or to try to find the place you wanted to have dinner. It is always a good idea to have a backup plan. Or two. These are mine. Also, Venice is crowded and restaurants are understaffed. Make reservations, keep your reservations, and let the restaurant know if you need to cancel.
