I have put twinkly lights on every possible surface and keep asking Noah to play Vince Guaraldi on the new keyboard. The multiple advent candles I bought at Ikea and Tiger are down almost to their ends with only 2 days left until Christmas. We have already finished one Focaccia Veneziana and are halfway through my favorite panettone that I still order from Rome. We have been taking walks and sleeping late and watching movies and seeing friends. I ordered my special tortellini natalizi and am about to start making two giant pots of broth for both the tortellini and our traditional Christmas Eve French onion soup. We just got back from a few days in Florence showing Dani our favorite restaurant and negroni spot. (I have added a few places to my Florence map that paid subscribers have access to) We visited the Ufizzi well after dark, something I 100% recommend doing if you ever have the chance. The Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica San Marco have similar late openings.
I am so grateful for all of you dear readers. Thank you spending another year with me here. I wish you all a cheerful end of 2024. My hope for all of us is that 2025 be a year full of good health, kindness, and adventures.
🍸 You know I love a cocktail. And a good playlist. I am partnering with and for a limited time a paid annual subscription to Gillian Knows Best also gets you an entire year of The Spirits, a newsletter that helps you make the most out of your collection of amaros and gins with an added dash of history and the music that ties it all together.
Would you like to come to Venice next fall or winter, stay in a palazzo, visit artisan workshops, eat the best meatballs, and drink spritz’s with my good pal Courtney? Your Grand Tour is creating an amazing Settimana Veneziana. Put your name on the list to find out more.
