Fammi una domanda: February 2024
Gillian Knows Best is TWO+a new museum in Rome +how I found my Venetian house
Greetings from Ortigia. We are in Sicily for a wedding. I’m eating some form of pistachios at every meal and drinking freshly squeezed red orange juice in the winter sunshine. We just got back from a long walk along the seafront and a quick visit to the Greek/Roman/Baroque Duomo. We are here for almost two weeks with a loose itinerary that includes Ragusa and Piazza Armerina and Palermo. If you have suggestions of things we shouldn’t miss please tell me in the comments.
I nervously started this newsletter two February’s ago. Would anyone actually want to read about the slightly offbeat places that I like writing about? In early 2022 the world was really starting to travel again. We took a trips to Venice and Paris. My calendar while not exactly full, had client walks and coffee meet-ups and phone calls scheduled. In 80 newsletters I have told you about where to eat and drink in Rome and Venice, said my goodbyes to Rome and shared some of my favorite Italian delights. It turns out you DO like reading about the offbeat places that I love writing about. Thank you so much for being here and for scheduling zoom calls and walks and coffee meet-ups.
This year in addition to telling you about more great places to eat and drink and explore in Italy I will also share the mad adventure of buying and renovating a house in Venice.
Do you hate long layovers? Direct flights to Venice from Atlanta, New York start again next month! Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto and Montreal also have seasonal direct flights starting in April through October.
Upgrade your subscription to read about how I found my Venetian house, A new museum in Rome and to ask any questions you have about Venice or Rome. It’s time to start planning your summer trip. I just looked at a hotel in Ponza and all of June and July are already booked solid! A pal wrote me a few weeks ago that whole weeks in May are already unavailable at favorite hotels here in Venice.
