I know, it is not even Thanksgiving yet but I also know that many of you are planners and a little bit of early sparkle has to be a good thing. Before we know it it will be time to watch The Holiday and Love Actually and listen to the Vince Guaraldi Trio on repeat.1 We always stay home for Christmas, save for once 30+ years ago when we went back to US. For 18 Christmases home was Rome. I love Christmas in Rome. It is a sweet twinkly low-key affair.
That might not be the case this year. An entire year of Catholic rituals and ceremony begins in a little over 40 days when the Pope opens the Holy Door of Saint Peterβs. Preparations for the Jubilee have had a significant impact on the city. The expectation is there will be continued chaos and crowds. But Christmas in Rome will still be Christmas in Rome.
