Love this post and discovering other sides of Rome. I’ve added it to my list for my next visit.

Bellissimo articolo. I have been going to the stadio olimpico since I was little to watch Lazio matches. The whole area is fascinating, and of course I love the stadio dei marmi, that you can still access to do some training. I never actually visited the pool, I would love to go. Too bad that Nervi's Stadio Flaminio is in a souch a rough shape. Grazie mille for sharing Gillian!

Thank you! Gualtieri & Lazio are trying to save Nervi’s stadium. I agree, It is such a shame to have let it get to such a state.

Si, but knowing Lotito I don’t have many hopes for the project to actually go anywhere, we’ll see! Grazie again for a beautiful article!

Love this-- a completely new neighborhood to explore. The Fascist era architecture is fascinating to me. Aesthetically, I can appreciate it, but my initial emotional response is always to recoil a little. And the idea that Mussolini found cycling to be a communist activity cracked me up...

There is an website & book, Rome the Second Time that is full of information about this time period & lesser known places. I think you would like it.
