Thanks for sharing this, and for the lovely pictures. I truly can't wait to get back to Rome. Question, and I'm a newer subscriber so I might have missed this, but why do you dislike the bikes? I honestly couldn't fathom renting and riding a bike in Rome (I'd be too scared), but I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
That's the worst, I'm sorry :( I've had experiences like that as well (not in Rome, but other places), it can be so off-putting—not to mention dangerous!
I planned a quick walk through, but spent hours lost and more than a few bicycle near misses. I love parks, have designed parks, but am with you on this one. Seeing the edges of ones you love is a perfect definition. On the other hand, my 2-hour time slot in the Galleria Borghese with the Damien Hirst exhibit was far too short.
Thanks! Funny post. I’m with ya on the bike thing. Alway got my jeans greasy from the chain or worse yet caught in the chain. Bell bottom jeans and bikes are not friends. 🤮
You are correct ☺️ I have had several unpleasant encounters with Roman cyclists who insist on riding on the sidewalk (and who are angry that pedestrians are using them 🙄)
Hi Gillian. Loving your Substack. 😍Have you posted anywhere tips for tickets to Galleria Borghese? Kim
I have not. It's challenging right now. My pal Elyssa is always a great source for practical things like this. https://www.romewise.com/galleria-borghese.html#galleria-borghese-tickets
Thanks Gillian. Lovely to be in touch and hope to book with you further.
I just remembered that Walks of Italy also has a nice tour https://fas.st/t/T2MCgNhJ

Welcome welcome! and thank you so much for subscribing.
I walk just about everywhere and I have had a few unpleasant encounters with cyclists who ride on the sidewalks here.

👍
I'm sensing a very bad experience with a bike in your childhood....
