I saw Livia's garden in the Palazzo Massimo a few days ago and that was a fascinating experience. Being able to stand in the middle of such a fascinating work and take the whole thing in, and then walk around and look at the plants up close was a truly special experience.
Gillian, you've mentioned many of my own favorites, especially those Caravaggios (Caravaggio?) in san Luigi. But if we add architecture, my favorite over all is the Pantheon. Years ago when I lived in Rome I used to consider it the best hangover cure in the world. Walk in there in the early morning and you could feel your beleaguered scalp lifted while a cool breeze blew through to refresh the mind.
Art: I loved the Anselm Kiefer at the Doges palace (buy your ticket at the Museo Corer & that saves all kinds of time and waiting in line) Gesuiti is one of my all time favorite churches but for the intarsia marble not the Tintoretto and I spent more than an hour at San Francesco in Vigna. If you love Kapoor make time to visit the show in both the Accademia & the just barely restored palazzo in Canareggio. Food: Vino Vero and Rosticceria Gilson are my solo dining faves. If you can get a spot at Al Covo or Nevodi go!
Ahh gosh this is my last night and I have just seen your dining suggestions! I am meeting 7 friends at a restaurant so it’s too late. I meant to ask you before! I ran out of time for the Kiefer and Kapoor (wanted to see them!) but I have seen an awful lot of art in 3 days so not too shabby!

Thanks for your hard work. I am grateful. I hope that Mark is doing better.
Thank you for reading. Mark is on the mend 🙏🏼
I love your daily walks and often pictures of the inside of churches in Rome and Venice. This is a wonderful selection of your favorites. Thank you.
Thank you so much for coming along with me!
Love these posts!
Thank you!

The Pantheon still makes me emotional. Every single time.
I get that, it has the same effect on me. I was lucky enough to go in last week.
How wonderful!
Great selection Gillian! I’m in Venice at the moment. Any recommendations?

I always say that I leave Venice knowing less than when I arrived. Every single trip!
That’s how I feel! Not enough time, as ever.
