Love your 2023 list. Ravenna is a wonder, wish I had spent more than a day there in 2022. I love Lake Maggiore and itβs islands were one of my favorite things out of all my trips to Italy (mind blowing villas and gardens). Now Iβve added Lake Garda to my list.
I enjoyed White Lotus and just happened to be in Sicily in October 2022 before all the hubbub. I cannot imagine how crowded Cefalu, Noto and Taormina will be in 2023. Everyone I know seems to be planning a trip there! If anyone is headed to southeastern Sicily, Noto is wonderful and you can do a beautiful immersive farm dinner at Three Farm Island. One of my favorite nights of our trip!
I was excited to see you are moving to Venice! Iβm hiking the Dolomites in September and kicking it off with 6 nights in Venice so I hope to connect with you when Iβm there. Now to sit down and make my own 2023 list!
Thank you for all of these recommendations Jen! I visited Noto a long time ago and really enjoyed it, but like you I think Sicily will be madness for the next few seasons.
I look forward to meeting you in a campo for a spritz soon!
Ravenna was part of my post- lockdown travel right after we were allowed to leave Lazio - the mosaics are stunning, so worth it. Looking forward to your new adventures!
Hi Gillian - I have several excellent recommendations for Milan including the very best airbnb, with the most lovely host, right above Cantine Isola! I stayed there in November. Eat risotto and drink excellent wines with the lovely staff at Ratana; and I will also connect you with my friend Ruth who does an incredible walking tour with her darling dog Spanky.
Next year when I am here I really want to stay a month in Torino and to spend time in the Dolomiti and also exploring islands around Venice so I will be keen to hear your recommendations (which are always excellent!).
Is there an email I should use to send you the airbnb listing?? It is one of my very favorite apartments/houses I've stayed in ever (and I stay in a lot!).
I'm working on an Italy list of my own that I'll send to subscribers on Thursday. I'm hoping to go back to Milan and Venice this year, in addition to lots of other places. I've been to each of them a handful of times and still have much more to see and do. I'm looking forward to your dispatches from Venice!
Wishing you a blessed New Year! What a wonderful list for 2023. Coming to Venice in November and deciding on other travel plans Ravenna, Lake Garda, Truffle Festivals, Parmaβ¦..too many choices. Iβll be in touch.
This is a fantastic list, Gillian. Thank you for sharing!
