What a great list! My favorites from this list are Palazzo Altemps and the Museo Nazionale Etrusco (I have a thing for Etruscan mirrors...but then again I have a thing for so many things in Rome...!). Both these museums are quiet and usually not crowded.
Question not related to this post, but hope you can answer - we will be in Rome in October and I have tried twice to book tickets to visit the Mausoleum of Augustus but when I click the "book visit" from the website I get a message that tickets are suspended. Any idea why? I've always wanted to visit it and was excited when I read earlier in the year that it was open for visits now. The first time we visited Rome over 20 years ago a priest who had lived in Rome told us that he always went to the tomb of Augustus on the the first Sunday in Advent and read to himself "A decree went out from Caesar Augustus" thought "and he's buried right here". He said it made it more real for him. I've wanted to visit it ever since and follow in Father Sullivan's footsteps. Thanks.
LOBSTERS!! I need to remember where the heck I saw that lobster holding a cross in the lintel above a door... very similar to this lobster ..hmmmm. :) Thanks Gillian!
Lovely list.. One day I would love to come back to Rome and explore ..
